This is a place for ex-New Yorkers to meet and find comraderie with others trying to survive the wishy-washy West Coast. How many times have you been misunderstood, called rude or offensive, abrasive, blunt, cocky or stand-offish? People on the West Coast don't like to give anyone bad news, have trouble being honest if it might hurt feelings, or are so immersed in "love & light" that they can't accept the fact that people do get grumpy or annoyed now and then. Where we come from, you call it like you see it, shit or get off the pot, and don't stand there spacing out at the sandwich menu--you either order your fuckin' bagel or step out of line!
The other side of this tribe is the opportunity we New Yorkers have to glean some of the "softness" and remember to have more compassion, learn to be more patient, understanding and tolerant of people who don't move or think as quickly as we are accustomed to. It's hard being the alien and being forced to give up your personality or risk being ostracized--so let's share some of our experiences and support each other as we assimilate into Western US culture.
